Ιδέες διδασκαλίας: | Description of the custom of Perperouna (Pirpirouna): the custom of Pirpirouna (also found as Perperouna, Pirpiritsa, Pipiritsa, Paparouna) is performed by a young girl wearing green leaves and tree branches around her head and body. Pirpirouna, the girl was accompanied by a group of girls, usually in friendship or neighborhood groups, while singing the song from door to door to as many families as possible. Each time the housewife opened the door and dropped some water on a drainer above Pirpirouna's head. Pirpirouna would lightly shake her head and body to drop some water around her. In some places the girls accompanied Pirpirouna holding a metal container, in order to collect some olive oil by the housewives for the church's candles. The custom of Perperouna represents people's invoke for rain and was performed in periods of drought. The custom accompanying the song is of pagan origin, but it has been practiced in modern Greece for very long time as a Christian custom, devoting girls' pray to God.
