Research by the students for the origins of the word “kalanta” (Latin word “calendae” and Greek word “kalo"= call). Presentation of Nikiforos Lytra’s painting “Kalanta” (1872). Observation of the elements of the painting: space, time, faces of the children, clothes of the children, musical instruments, objects, etc. Comparison of the paining to a corresponding image of the present day. Painting upon this theme: “The New Year’s carols” (group work). Musical compositions by the children upon given phrases of the song (f.i. Saint Vassilios is coming).
